ISLAMABAD, Aug 3 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi Thursday here underscored the need for focus on poverty alleviation, education, and preventive health to bring real change in Pakistan and ensure the protection of rights of deprived communities.

Speaking at a ceremony of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICC), he urged that the foundation of the country needed to be strengthened and basic issues like education and health should be resolved to put Pakistan on the path of further progress and prosperity.

He underlined the need for better decision-making and implementation of policies in the economic and social sectors to transform society for the better.

He cited the example of Korea which adopted the policies of Pakistan’s economist Dr Mehboob ul Haq in the 1960s and grew speedily, saying in the past in Pakistan only lip service was paid and the country could not make its economy flourish.

He said investments in the real estate sector were important but the money should stay in circulation instead of getting stuck in buying of properties, adding wealth should be shared and invested for gainful employment of the people.

He said the concept of nation-state pursued by European countries failed in many aspects, exploited humans and could not stop bloodshed even in the present century, for example in the ongoing war in Ukraine.

He said Pakistan was an Islamic democratic state and its people should be guided by the Quran, Sunnah and opinions of its religious scholars and communities. Reciting the verses of Quran, he said Quran offered solutions for living a moral life leading to the righteous path.

The President was of the view that Islam was not only about rituals but had some basic concepts which should be adopted to keep traveling on the righteous path.
Muslims in Pakistan should inculcate fear of Allah, adopt values of honesty and piety and cultivate the spirit of sharing one’s earnings with the needy and vulnerable people in society, he emphasised.
“We should have strong faith in the revelations of Quran and the hereafter and we should take care of the needs of the poor to seek blessings of Allah.”

Dr Alvi said Pakistan should not rely on foreign aid but people should focus on improving their character, developing a sense of community, giving charity and pursuing values that create a better and God-fearing society.

Society as a whole should take steps to empower women because Quaid-e-Azam categorically stated that without progress of women Pakistan could not move forward, he said adding Islam was the first religion that gave women the right to inheritance.

He lamented the fact that 27 million children in Pakistan were out of school and were deprived of education which should be a matter of grave concern for the policymakers, adding the rights of persons with disabilities should be protected.
President ICCI Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari also spoke on the occasion and highlighted issues faced by the business community.
Earlier, he gave away recognition shields among the former vice presidents of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI).

اسلام آباد۔3اگست (اے پی پی):صدر مملکت ڈاکٹر عارف علوی نے غربت کے خاتمے، تعلیم اور احتیاطی صحت پر توجہ دینے کی ضرورت پر زور دیا ہے تاکہ پاکستان میں حقیقی تبدیلی لائی جا سکے اور محروم کمیونٹیز کے حقوق کے تحفظ کو یقینی بنایا جا سکے۔جمعرات کو یہاں ایوان صدر میں اسلام آباد چیمبر آف کامرس اینڈ انڈسٹری (آئی سی سی آئی ) کی ایک تقریب سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے انہوں نے زور دیا کہ پاکستان کو مزید ترقی اور خوشحالی کی راہ پر ڈالنے کے لیے ملک کی بنیاد کو مضبوط کرنے اور تعلیم اور صحت جیسے بنیادی مسائل کو حل کرنے کی ضرورت ہے۔

انہوں نے معاشرے کو بہتر سے بہتر بنانے کے لیے معاشی اور سماجی شعبوں میں بہتر فیصلہ سازی اور پالیسیوں کے نفاذ کی ضرورت پر زور دیا۔ انہوں نے کوریا کی مثال دی جس نے 1960 کی دہائی میں پاکستان کے ماہر معاشیات ڈاکٹر محبوب الحق کی پالیسیوں کو اپنایا اور تیزی سے ترقی کی، اور کہا کہ ماضی میں پاکستان میں صرف زبانی دعوے کئے جاتے رہے لیکن ملک کی معیشت کو ترقی نہیں ملی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ رئیل اسٹیٹ سیکٹر میں سرمایہ کاری ضروری ہے لیکن جائیدادوں کی خریداری میں پھنسنے کی بجائے پیسہ گردش میں رہنا چاہیے اور لوگوں کے روزگار کے لیے سرمایہ کاری کی جانی چاہیے۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ یورپی ممالک کی جانب سے قومی ریاست کا تصور کئی پہلوؤں سے ناکام ہوا، انسانوں کا استحصال ہوا اور موجودہ صدی میں بھی خونریزی کو روکا نہیں جا سکا۔ صدر مملکت نے کہا کہ پاکستان ایک اسلامی جمہوری ریاست ہے اور اس کے عوام کو قرآن، سنت اور اس کے علماء کی رائے سے رہنمائی حاصل کرنی چاہیے۔ قرآن مجید کی آیات کی تلاوت کرتے ہوئے انہوں نے کہا کہ قرآن نے اخلاقی زندگی گزارنے کے لیے راہِ راست پر گامزن ہونے کا حل پیش کیا ہے۔ صدر مملکت کا کہنا تھا کہ اسلام صرف رسومات کا مذہب نہیں ہے بلکہ اس کے کچھ بنیادی تصورات ہیں جنہیں اپنا کر راہ راست پر چلتے رہنا چاہیے۔

انہوں نے زور دے کر کہا کہ پاکستان میں مسلمانوں کو اللہ کا خوف پیدا کرنا چاہیے، دیانتداری اور تقویٰ کی اقدار کو اپنانا چاہیے اور معاشرے میں ضرورت مند اور کمزور لوگوں کے ساتھ بانٹنے کا جذبہ پیدا کرنا چاہیے۔ صدر عارف علوی نے کہا کہ پاکستان کو غیر ملکی امداد پر انحصار نہیں کرنا چاہیے بلکہ لوگوں کو اپنے کردار کو بہتر بنانے، کمیونٹی کا احساس پیدا کرنے، خیرات دینے اور ایسی اقدار کی پیروی پر توجہ دینی چاہیے جو ایک بہتر اور خدا سے ڈرنے والا معاشرہ تشکیل دیں۔

معاشرے کو مجموعی طور پر خواتین کو بااختیار بنانے کے لیے اقدامات کرنے چاہئییں کیونکہ قائداعظم نے واضح طور پر کہا تھا کہ خواتین کی ترقی کے بغیر پاکستان آگے نہیں بڑھ سکتا، انہوں نے کہا کہ اسلام پہلا مذہب ہے جس نے خواتین کو وراثت کا حق دیا۔ انہوں نے اس بات پر افسوس کا اظہار کیا کہ پاکستان میں 27 ملین بچے اسکولوں سے باہر ہیں اور تعلیم سے محروم ہیں جو کہ پالیسی سازوں کے لیے سخت تشویش کا باعث ہونا چاہیے۔

انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ خصوصی افراد کے حقوق کا تحفظ کیا جانا چاہیے۔ اس موقع پر آئی سی سی آئی کے صدر احسن ظفر بختاوری نے بھی خطاب کیا اور تاجر برادری کو درپیش مسائل پر روشنی ڈالی۔ قبل ازیں، صدر مملکت نے اسلام آباد چیمبر آف کامرس اینڈ انڈسٹری (آئی سی سی آئی) کے سابق نائب صدور میں شیلڈز بھی تقسیم کیں۔
