Message on the World Hepatitis Day - 28th July, 2025

World Hepatitis Day is observed today to raise awareness about the dangers of hepatitis and to promote collective action to prevent and control this growing public health threat. In Pakistan, viral hepatitis continues to pose a public health challenge with Millions silently suffer due to late diagnosis, lack of awareness and inadequate healthcare services. The rising incidence of hepatitis is putting burden on our healthcare system as well as economy. 

Hepatitis is often called as a “silent killer,” hepatitis progresses unnoticed until it causes irreversible liver damage. If left untreated, it can lead to life-threatening complications such as cirrhosis and liver failure. Its quiet spread has made it a silent epidemic. The disease is preventable, provided its root causes are effectively addressed. 

Addressing hepatitis requires an integrated and coordinated national response. We must implement comprehensive strategies that combine mass awareness campaigns, effective vaccination drives, timely screening and access to treatment. It is imperative to extend these services to all segments of society, especially in underserved and rural areas. At the same time, we must invest in training healthcare workers, enforce strict infection control protocols and strengthen the regulation and oversight of medical and blood transfusion practices.

Raising public awareness must remain central to our efforts. The more people understand the risks, the better equipped they will be to protect themselves and their families. Through raising awareness campaigns, we can promote responsible healthcare practices and educate the people about hepatitis to help minimize the risk factors that contribute to its spread.

Public awareness must be at the heart of our efforts. The more our people know, the more lives we can save. Through awareness campaigns, we can empower citizens with the knowledge to protect themselves and their families from this preventable disease.

On this  day, I call upon all stakeholders—government institutions, healthcare professionals, private sector partners, media, and civil society—to join hands in a unified response to combat hepatitis. We can defeat this challenge through collective efforts.

Let this day serve as a reminder that hepatitis is preventable and treatable. With collective efforts and coordinated action, we will surmount this challenge and move toward a healthier and hepatitis-free future.

آج،  ہیپاٹائٹس کا عالمی دن  اس عزم کے ساتھ منایا جا رہا ہے کہ ہیپاٹائٹس جیسے خطرناک مرض کے بارے میں شعور اُجاگر کیا جائے اور اس کے پھیلاؤ کو روکنے اور اس پر قابو پانے کے لیے مشترکہ اقدامات کو فروغ دیا جائے۔ پاکستان میں ہیپاٹائٹس صحت عامہ کا  ایک سنگین مسئلہ بنا ہوا ہے، جہاں لاکھوں افراد  تشخیص میں تاخیر، ناکافی آگاہی اور غیر مؤثر طبی سہولیات کے باعث خاموشی سے اس مرض کا شکار ہو رہے ہیں۔ یہ صورتِ حال نہ صرف ہمارے نظامِ صحت پر بوجھ ڈال رہی ہے بلکہ قومی معیشت کو بھی متاثر کر رہی ہے۔
ہیپاٹائٹس کو  بجا طور پر ’’خاموش قاتل‘‘ کہا جاتا ہے کیونکہ یہ مرض  عموماًایسی اسٹیج پر جا کر ظاہر ہوتا ہے جب جگر کو ناقابلِ تلافی نقصان پہنچ چکا ہوتا ہے۔ اگر بروقت علاج نہ ہو تو یہ مرض جگر کی ناکامی اور سروسس جیسے مہلک نتائج کا سبب بن سکتا ہے۔ اس کے خاموش پھیلاؤ نے اسے ایک ’’خاموش وبا‘‘ بنا دیا ہے۔ تاہم یہ ایک قابلِ علاج اور قابلِ انسداد مرض ہے، بشرطیکہ اس کی بنیادی وجوہات کا بروقت اور مؤثر سدباب کیا جائے۔
ہیپاٹائٹس کے خلاف مؤثر جدوجہد کے لیے مربوط اور منظم قومی حکمتِ عملی کی ضرورت ہے۔ ہمیں وسیع سطح پر آگاہی مہمات، ویکسینیشن، بروقت اسکریننگ اور علاج تک رسائی کو یقینی بنانا ہوگا۔ یہ خدمات خاص طور پر دور دراز اور پسماندہ علاقوں تک پہنچانا ناگزیر ہے۔ ساتھ ہی صحت کے عملے کی تربیت، انفیکشن کنٹرول کے سخت اقدامات اور خون کی منتقلی و طبی طریقہ کار کے سخت ضوابط پر عملدرآمد بھی لازمی ہے۔
ہیپاٹائٹس سے بچاؤ کے لیے عوامی شعور کو ہماری کوششوں کا مرکز ہونا چاہیے۔ جتنا زیادہ ہمارے عوام کو اس مرض کے خطرات کا علم ہوگا، اتنا ہی بہتر طریقے سے وہ اپنی اور اپنے خاندان کی حفاظت کر سکیں گے۔ آگاہی مہمات کے ذریعے ہم ذمہ دارانہ طبی طرزِ عمل کو فروغ دے سکتے ہیں اور لوگوں کو اس بیماری سے بچاؤ کے لیے درکار معلومات مہیا کر سکتے ہیں۔    
آج  اس اہم  دن میں؛ تمام فریقین،حکومتی اداروں، طبی ماہرین، نجی شعبے، میڈیا اور سول سوسائٹی سے اپیل کرتا ہوں کہ وہ ایک مؤثر اور مشترکہ حکمتِ عملی کے تحت ہیپاٹائٹس کے خلاف یکجا ہو کر کام کریں۔ ہم اجتماعی کوششوں سے اس چیلنج پر قابو پا سکتے ہیں۔
آج کا دن اس امر کی یاد دہانی ہے کہ ہیپاٹائٹس ایک قابلِ علاج اور قابلِ انسداد مرض ہے۔ باہمی تعاون اور مربوط کوششوں سے ہم اس چیلنج کو ضرور شکست دیں گے اور ایک صحت مند اور ہیپاٹائٹس سے پاک پاکستان کی جانب بڑھیں گے
