(On the occasion of World Tourism Day on 27^th September, 2023)

It is a matter of great pleasure for me to extend this message today as we celebrate World Tourism Day 2023, and to renew our pledge to consider the power and potential of the tourism sector in advancing the prosperity and progress of the region.

Pakistan is a country that is home to some of the world's most fascinating tourist attractions, including the highest mountain peaks, stunning coastlines, beautiful lakes, lush green valleys, ancient civilizations, and a rich cultural heritage.

This day is celebrated every year on September 27 under the auspices of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to raise awareness about the importance of tourism and its impact on our society. This year's theme, "Tourism and Green Investments," provides us with ample opportunity to identify the potential of green investments as a key priority for the growth and sustainable development of tourism.

For World Tourism Day 2023, UNWTO emphasizes the need for more and better-targeted investments for people, the planet, and prosperity. Now is the time for new and innovative solutions, not just traditional investments that promote and underpin economic growth and productivity.

Today, the climate emergency threatens many travel destinations and the very survival of communities and economies that depend on tourism. Many developing countries, severely affected by a changing climate, also face a growing investment deficit and a cost-of-living crisis. There is a dire need for long-term planning to boost the tourism industry sustainably and set new boundaries for securing its future.

This year's theme aims to harness the full potential of sustainable tourism by motivating private actors to adopt zero-emission pathways, reduce their energy consumption, and leverage renewable forms of energy to protect the biodiversity and ecological balance of all destinations.

The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) and provincial tourism departments have planned various activities to celebrate the day, with a focus on raising awareness regarding green investments and eco-friendly tourism to meet the challenges of this new era. Let us all join hands to harness the great potential of sustainable tourism development by focusing on green investments for a better and more viable future.

کا سیاحت کے عالمی دن ، 27 ستمبر 2023 ء ، پر پیغام

میرے لیے یہ امر باعثِ مسرت ہے کہ آج ہم عالمی  یومِ سیاحت 2023 ء منا رہے ہیں۔ آج ہم خطے کی ترقی اور خوشحالی میں شعبہ ِسیاحت کے کردار اور صلاحیت  کو بروئے کار لانے کے عزم کا اعادہ کرتے ہیں۔

پاکستان دنیا کے چند دلکش  ترین سیاحتی مقامات  کا حامل ملک ہے۔ پاکستان بلند ترین پہاڑی چوٹیوں ، شاندار ساحلی پٹی، خوبصورت جھیلوں ، سرسبز و شاداب وادیوں ، قدیم تہذیبوں ، اور بھرپور ثقافتی ورثے   کی سرزمین ہے۔

ہر سال 27 ستمبر کو اقوام متحدہ کی عالمی تنظیم  برائے سیاحت  (UNWTO ) کے زیراہتمام عالمی یوم ِ سیاحت منایا جاتا ہے ۔ اس دن  کو منانے کا مقصد شعبہ ِسیاحت کی اہمیت اور ہمارے معاشرے پر اس کے اثرات کے بارے میں شعور اجاگر کرنا ہے۔ اس سال  کے یومِ سیاحت کا موضوع "سیاحت اور ماحول دوست سرمایہ کاری" ہے  اور اس کا مقصد سیاحت کے فروغ اور پائیدار ترقی کیلئے ماحول دوست سرمایہ کاری کے امکانات کی نشاندہی کرنا ہے ۔

اقوامِ متحدہ کی عالمی تنظیم برائے سیاحت  عالمی یوم ِسیاحت کے موقع پر انسانیت، کرہ ِارض اور خوشحالی کیلئے مزید اور بہتر سرمایہ کاری کی ضرورت اجاگر کرتی ہے۔ یہی وقت ہے کہ ہم  اقتصادی ترقی اور پیداواری صلاحیت بڑھانے کیلئے روایتی سرمایہ کاری کے علاوہ جدید اور غیر روایتی حل  بھی اپنائیں۔

آج موسمیاتی تبدیلیوں کے باعث پیدا ہونے والی ہنگامی صورتحال  کی وجہ سے کئی سیاحتی مقامات اور سیاحت پر انحصار کرنے والی آبادیوں اور معیشتوں کو  بقا ء کے خطرات لاحق ہیں۔ موسمیاتی تبدیلیوں سے شدید متاثر بہت سے ترقی پذیر دیگر ممالک کو سرمایہ کاری  کی کمی اور مہنگائی کے بحران کا   بھی سامنا ہے۔ سیاحت کے پائیدار فروغ اور محفوظ مستقبل کیلئے ہمیں نئی حدود اور طویل المدتی منصوبہ بندی کی اشد ضرورت ہے۔

اس سال کے دن کا مقصد نجی شعبے کو اس بات کی ترغیب دلانا ہے کہ وہ صفر کاربن اخراج کے طریقے اپنائیں ، توانائی کی کھپت کم کریں ، اور تمام سیاحتی مقامات کا حیاتیاتی تنوع اور ماحولیاتی توازن برقرار رکھنے کیلئے قابل ِتجدید  توانائی سے فائدہ اٹھا کر پائیدار سیاحت کی مکمل صلاحیت کو بروئے کار لائیں۔

پاکستان کارپوریشن  برائے ترقی سیاحت اور سیاحت  کے صوبائی محکمہ جات نے یہ دن منانے کیلئے مختلف سرگرمیاں ترتیب دی ہیں  جن کا مقصد نئے دور کے چیلنجوں سے نمٹنے کیلئے ماحول دوست سرمایہ کاری اور سیاحت کے حوالے سے شعور اجاگر کرنا ہے۔ آئیے ، ہم سب ایک بہتر اور پائیدار مستقبل کیلئے ماحول دوست سرمایہ کاری پر توجہ دے کر پائیدار سیاحت کے امکانات بروئے کار لانے کیلئے مل کر کام کریں۔
