Message on the Independence Day of Myanmar - 4th January 2026

On behalf of the Government and the people of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and on my own behalf, I extend my warm and sincere felicitations to Your Excellency and to the Government and people of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on the seventy-eighth anniversary of your Independence Day.

Pakistan and Myanmar share a long history of cordial relations, rooted in mutual respect and understanding since the early years following Myanmar’s independence. These ties are reinforced by historic cultural links and a tradition of goodwill between our peoples. Over time, our relationship has continued to evolve, with growing engagement in areas such as trade, defence, health, culture and people-to-people exchanges. I am confident that there remains considerable potential to further expand our cooperation through practical initiatives and closer institutional links that serve the shared interests of our two countries.

Pakistan attaches importance to working with Myanmar to promote peace, stability and development in our wider region. Both our countries are active members of the United Nations and other international forums, where Pakistan values cooperation with Myanmar on issues of mutual concern, based on respect for sovereignty, dialogue and multilateralism.

We also recognise the importance of broader regional engagement. Myanmar’s role within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is significant for regional stability and economic integration. Pakistan, as a Sectoral Dialogue Partner of ASEAN, remains interested in strengthening its engagement with ASEAN and its member states, including Myanmar, in ways that promote connectivity, development and mutual understanding.

I take this opportunity to reaffirm Pakistan’s desire to strengthen bilateral contacts with Myanmar and to encourage greater interaction between our public and private sectors. Such engagement can help translate our longstanding goodwill into tangible outcomes for our peoples.

کا جمہوریہ میانمار کے یوم آزادی کے موقع پر

میں اسلامی جمہوریہ پاکستان کی حکومت، عوام اور اپنی طرف سے آپ کو، جمہوریہ میانمار کی حکومت کو اور عوام کو یومِ آزادی کی 78 ویں سالگرہ کے موقع پر دلی مبارکباد پیش کرتا ہوں۔

پاکستان اور میانمار کے درمیان خوشگوار تعلقات کی ایک طویل تاریخ ہے جو میانمار کی آزادی کے ابتدائی برسوں سے باہمی احترام اور افہام و تفہیم پر قائم ہے۔ یہ تعلقات تاریخی و ثقافتی روابط اور دونوں اقوام کے درمیان خیرسگالی کی روایت سے مزید مضبوط ہوئے ہیں۔ وقت کے ساتھ ساتھ ہمارے تعلقات مسلسل بڑھے ہیں، تجارت، دفاع، صحت، ثقافت اور عوامی روابط سمیت مختلف شعبوں میں تعاون میں اضافہ ہوا ہے۔ مجھے یقین ہے کہ عملی اقدامات اور مضبوط ادارہ جاتی روابط کے ذریعے جو دونوں ممالک کے مشترکہ مفادات کو فروغ دیں، باہمی تعاون کو مزید وسعت دینے کی خاصی گنجائش موجود ہے۔ 

پاکستان خطے میں امن، استحکام اور ترقی کے فروغ کےلئے میانمار کے ساتھ مل کر کام کرنے کو اہمیت دیتا ہے۔ دونوں ممالک اقوامِ متحدہ اور دیگر بین الاقوامی فورمز کے فعال رکن ہیں، جہاں پاکستان خودمختاری کے احترام، مکالمے اور کثیرالجہتی اصولوں کی بنیاد پر باہمی دلچسپی کے امور پر میانمار کے ساتھ تعاون کو قدر کی نگاہ سے دیکھتا ہے۔
 
ہم وسیع تر علاقائی روابط کی اہمیت کو بھی تسلیم کرتے ہیں۔ جنوب مشرقی ایشیائی ممالک کی تنظیم (آسیان) میں میانمار کا کردار علاقائی استحکام اور اقتصادی یکجہتی کےلئے نہایت اہم ہے۔ پاکستان آسیان کے سیکٹرل ڈائیلاگ پارٹنر کے طور پر آسیان اور اس کے رکن ممالک بشمول میانمار کے ساتھ روابط کو مضبوط بنانے میں دلچسپی رکھتا ہے تاکہ رابطہ، ترقی اور باہمی ہم آہنگی کو فروغ دیا جاسکے۔

میں اس موقع پر پاکستان کی جانب سے میانمار کے ساتھ دوطرفہ روابط کو مزید مضبوط بنانے اور سرکاری و نجی شعبوں کے مابین زیادہ سے زیادہ تعاون کی حوصلہ افزائی کے عزم کا اعادہ کرتا ہوں۔ اس نوعیت کی شمولیت ہماری دیرینہ خیرسگالی کو عوام کےلئے ٹھوس ثمرات میں تبدیل کرنے میں مددگار ثابت ہوسکتی ہے۔
