Message on the Kashmir Solidarity Day  - 5 February 2026

The people of Pakistan across the globe observe Kashmir Solidarity Day to reaffirm our unwavering moral, diplomatic and political support for our Kashmiri brothers and sisters in their just cause to achieve the right to self-determination as enshrined in the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. It was Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto who began the observance of this day 36 years ago, following the historic uprising of the Kashmiri people in 1989, a struggle that continues to this day.

For nearly eight decades, the valiant Kashmiri people have stood tall against the illegal Indian occupation and have rendered countless sacrifices. On this day, we pay solemn tribute to their indomitable spirit and resilience.

The situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) remains a matter of grave concern for global conscience. Since the illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019, India has intensified its efforts to consolidate its occupation through administrative and legislative manipulation. By muzzling the media, incarcerating the Kashmiri leadership and attempting to dilute the Muslim majority through demographic changes, India seeks to disempower the Kashmiri people in their own land.

Indian occupation forces also continue to commit countless human rights violations in IIOJK. The findings of recent international reports highlight the alarming rise in arbitrary detentions and collective punishment. The use of punitive house demolitions and the ongoing suppression of digital freedoms, including the blocking of thousands of social media accounts, are clear attempts to hide the reality in IIOJK.

The recent profiling of mosques and mosque management committees in IIOJK constitutes deliberate intimidation by the Indian authorities, aimed to obstruct the free exercise of religion by the Muslim majority population. Such actions form part of a broader pattern of religious persecution under the extremist Hindutva framework. The Kashmiri people have the inalienable right to practice their religion without fear, coercion or discrimination.

The dangerous military escalation initiated by India in May 2025 serves as a stark reminder that true and durable peace in South Asia remains impossible unless the core dispute of Jammu and Kashmir is resolved.

I urge the international community to move beyond mere expressions of concern for the Kashmiri people and persuade India to stop the human rights violations in IIOJK, allow unfettered access to international human rights observers and grant the Kashmiri people their promised right to self-determination.

On this day, I reiterate that we will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Kashmiri people until they realize their right to decide their own future through a free and impartial plebiscite.

دنیا بھر میں بسنے والے پاکستانی یومِ یکجہتیٔ کشمیر مناتے ہیں تاکہ اپنے کشمیری بھائیوں اور بہنوں کے ساتھ غیرمتزلزل اخلاقی، سفارتی اور سیاسی حمایت کا اعادہ کیا جا سکے۔ یہ حمایت اُن کے اس جائز حق کے لیے ہے کہ وہ اقوامِ متحدہ کی سلامتی کونسل کی متعلقہ قراردادوں کے مطابق حقِ خود ارادیت حاصل کر سکیں۔ 36 برس قبل، 1989 میں کشمیری عوام کی تاریخی جدوجہد کے بعد، شہید محترمہ بینظیر بھٹو نے اس دن کے باقاعدہ انعقاد کا آغاز کیا، اور یہ جدوجہد آج بھی جاری ہے۔

تقریباً آٹھ دہائیوں سے بہادر کشمیری عوام غیرقانونی بھارتی قبضے کے خلاف ڈٹے ہوئے ہیں اور بے شمار قربانیاں دے چکے ہیں۔ اس دن ہم اُن کے عزم، حوصلے اور ثابت قدمی کو خراجِ تحسین پیش کرتے ہیں۔

بھارت کے غیرقانونی زیرِ قبضہ جموں و کشمیر میں صورتحال عالمی ضمیر کے لیے شدید تشویش کا باعث بنی ہوئی ہے۔ 5 اگست 2019 کے غیرقانونی اور یکطرفہ اقدامات کے بعد بھارت نے انتظامی اور قانونی طریقوں سے اپنے قبضے کو مضبوط کرنے کی کوششیں تیز کر دی ہیں۔ میڈیا پر قدغن، کشمیری قیادت کی گرفتاریوں اور آبادی کے تناسب میں تبدیلی کی کوششوں کے ذریعے کشمیری عوام کو اُنہی کی سرزمین میں کمزور کرنے کی کوشش کی جا رہی ہے۔

بھارتی قابض افواج کی جانب سے انسانی حقوق کی سنگین خلاف ورزیاں بھی بدستور جاری ہیں۔ حالیہ بین الاقوامی رپورٹس میں من مانے حراستی اقدامات اور اجتماعی سزاؤں میں تشویشناک اضافہ سامنے آیا ہے۔سزا کے طور پر گھروں کی مسماری اور ڈیجیٹل آزادیوں پر مسلسل پابندیاں، جن میں ہزاروں سوشل میڈیا اکاؤنٹس کی بندش شامل ہے، اُس حقیقت کو چھپانے کی واضح کوششیں ہیں جو وہاں موجود ہے۔

بھارت کے غیرقانونی زیرِ قبضہ جموں و کشمیر میں مساجد اور مسجد انتظامیہ کی حالیہ پروفائلنگ بھارتی حکام کی جانب سے دانستہ دباؤ کی کارروائیاں ہیں، جن کا مقصد مسلم اکثریتی آبادی کے مذہبی حقوق میں رکاوٹ ڈالنا ہے۔ یہ اقدامات انتہاپسند ہندوتوا سوچ کے تحت مذہبی امتیاز کے وسیع تر سلسلے کا حصہ ہیں۔ کشمیری عوام کو بغیر خوف، دباؤ یا امتیاز کے اپنے مذہب پر عمل کرنے کا ناقابلِ تنسیخ حق حاصل ہے۔

مئی 2025 میں بھارت کی جانب سے کی گئی خطرناک فوجی کشیدگی اس حقیقت کی یاد دہانی ہے کہ جنوبی ایشیا میں پائیدار امن اُس وقت تک ممکن نہیں جب تک جموں و کشمیر کا بنیادی تنازعہ حل نہیں ہوتا۔

میں عالمی برادری سے اپیل کرتا ہوں کہ وہ محض تشویش کے اظہار سے آگے بڑھتے ہوئے بھارت کو انسانی حقوق کی خلاف ورزیاں روکنے پر آمادہ کرے، بین الاقوامی انسانی حقوق کے مبصرین کو بلا رکاوٹ رسائی دے، اور کشمیری عوام کو اُن کا وعدہ شدہ حقِ خود ارادیت فراہم کرے۔

اس موقع پر میں ایک بار پھر یقین دلاتا ہوں کہ ہم کشمیری عوام کے شانہ بشانہ کھڑے رہیں گے، تا وقتیکہ وہ آزادانہ اور غیرجانبدارانہ رائے شماری کے ذریعے اپنے مستقبل کا فیصلہ کرنے کا حق حاصل کر لیں۔
