Message on the Independence Day of Sri Lanka  - 4 February 2026

On behalf of the Government and the people of Pakistan, and personally, I extend my warm felicitations to His Excellency Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, the Government, and the friendly people of Sri Lanka on the occasion of the country’s 78th Independence Day.

This important day reflects the unity and national pride of the Sri Lankan people, as well as the strength and continuity of their national journey, shaped by a rich cultural heritage and resilience. 
Pakistan and Sri Lanka have a time-tested friendship as we have stood together through thick and thin. Pakistan’s armed forces played an important role assigned by the people of Sri Lanka to crush terrorism on their homeland.

I also want to appreciate the role played by Sri Lanka in South Asian cooperation as Sri Lanka hosted the 6th (1991), the 10th (1998) and the 15th (2008) SAARC summits in Colombo. It is sad that India has stalled the SAARC summits for almost 12 years by violating its spirit just because the next summit was supposed to be hosted by Pakistan.

On this day, I hope that Sri Lanka and Pakistan will continue to cooperate for South Asian security and the revival of SAARC.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka enjoy longstanding and brotherly relations, founded on mutual trust, goodwill, and shared values. Over the years, our two countries have stood together in times of challenge as well as in moments of achievement.

I am confident that the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will continue to grow stronger as we work together to further deepen our bilateral relations in the years ahead.

میں اپنی جانب سے اور  پاکستان کی حکومت اور عوام کی جانب سے، سری لنکا کے صدر، عزت مآب جناب انورا کمارا ڈسانائیکے، حکومت اور دوست عوام کو ملک کے 78ویں یومِ آزادی کے موقع پر دلی مبارکباد پیش کرتا ہوں۔

یہ اہم دن سری لنکا کے عوام کے اتحاد اور قومی تفاخر کی عکاسی کرتا ہے، اور ان کے پرعزم قومی سفر کے تسلسل کو ظاہر کرتا ہے، جو بھرپور ثقافتی ورثے اور مشکلات کا ڈٹ کر مقابلہ کرنے کی صلاحیت سے تشکیل پایا ہے۔

پاکستان اور سری لنکا کی دوستی وقت کی کسوٹی پر پوری اتری ہے، اور ہم ہر مشکل اور آسان گھڑی میں ایک دوسرے کے ساتھ کھڑے رہے ہیں۔ پاکستان کی مسلح افواج نے سری لنکا کے عوام کی جانب سے سونپی گئی ذمہ داری کے تحت ان کے وطن سے دہشت گردی کے خاتمے میں اہم کردار ادا کیا۔

میں جنوبی ایشیا میں تعاون کے فروغ کے لیے سری لنکا کے کردار کو بھی سراہتا ہوں، جہاں کولمبو میں سارک کے چھٹے (1991)، 10ویں (1998) اور 15ویں (2008) سربراہی اجلاس منعقد ہوئے۔ یہ امر افسوسناک ہے کہ بھارت نے، محض اس وجہ سے کہ اگلا سربراہی اجلاس پاکستان میں ہونا تھا، سارک کی روح کی خلاف ورزی کرتے ہوئے تقریباً 12 برس سے ان اجلاسوں کو معطل کر رکھا ہے۔

 مجھے امید ہے کہ سری لنکا اور پاکستان جنوبی ایشیائی سلامتی اور سارک کی بحالی کے لیے باہمی تعاون جاری رکھیں گے۔

پاکستان اور سری لنکا کے تعلقات دیرینہ اور برادرانہ ہیں، جو باہمی اعتماد، خیرسگالی اور مشترکہ اقدار پر قائم ہیں۔ ماضی میں دونوں ممالک نے چیلنجز کے دوران اور کامیابیوں کے لمحات میں بھی ایک دوسرے کا ساتھ دیا ہے۔

مجھے یقین ہے کہ پاکستان اور سری لنکا باہمی تعلقات کو مزید گہرا کرنے کے لیے مل کر کام کرتے رہیں گے اور ہمارے درمیان دوستی اور تعاون کے رشتے آنے والے برسوں میں مزید مضبوط ہوتے جائیں گے۔
