I wish to felicitate the entire Pakistani nation and the Parliament on the Golden Jubilee of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973. The adoption and enactment of our Constitution on 10 April constitutes a historic milestone in the political and constitutional history of our country.
The people of Pakistan were cognisant of their responsibility before Allah Almighty and the sacrifices rendered by the people in the cause of Pakistan, and they adopted, enacted and gave themselves this Constitution through their representatives. Through this Constitution, they aimed to establish an order where principles of democracy, freedom, equality, tolerance and social justice, as enunciated by Islam, would be fully observed, and where Muslims would be enabled to lead their lives in the individual and collective spheres in accordance with the teachings of Islam.
The Constitution of Pakistan reflects the aspirations of its people and enshrines the concept that sovereignty over the entire Universe belongs to Almighty Allah alone, and that authority is a sacred trust which is to be exercised by the people of Pakistan through their chosen representatives within the limits prescribed by the Allah Almighty. Our Constitution also guarantees fundamental rights, including equality of status, of opportunity and before the law; social, economic and political justice; freedom of thought, expression, belief, faith, worship and association, subject to the law and public morality; rights of minorities, and independence of the judiciary.
Despite challenges and setbacks, our Constitution remains the cornerstone of our national and political unity, and solidarity and provides the only framework through which the people of Pakistan can prosper, overcome current challenges, and attain their rightful place among the comity of nations. Since the people of Pakistan gave themselves this Constitution through consensus, therefore, it is the responsibility of every citizen to protect and uphold the Constitution and the values enshrined in it. I urge the entire nation to strive for the promotion of unity, cohesion, and democratic values in our country by upholding the Constitution.
On this day, let us pledge to follow the Constitution in its letter and spirit for creating an egalitarian society as envisioned by our forefathers in this very Constitution. Let us work together to build a stronger and more prosperous Pakistan, where every citizen is able to realize their full potential. May Allah be our Guide and Supporter. Ameen!
