Message on International Radio Day  - 13 February 2026

On the occasion of International Radio Day, I extend my greetings to radio professionals, broadcasters and listeners, and to all those who contribute to the vital work of audio communication in Pakistan and around the world.

This day recognises the unique role of radio in informing, educating and connecting people across cultures and geographies. For more than a century, radio has shaped public discourse and public life. It remains a companion medium that educates and entertains without demanding undivided attention, allowing people to stay informed as they go about their daily lives.

The theme for International Radio Day this year focuses on the relationship between radio and artificial intelligence. It acknowledges how new technologies can support broadcasters when used ethically and responsibly, while respecting professional judgement and creativity. In the digital era, AI offers opportunities to enhance accessibility, improve audience engagement and strengthen the delivery of public service information. Its careful use in production, transmission, audience assessment, feedback and research can further strengthen the medium, while the human voice and editorial integrity remain radio’s core strength.

In Pakistan, radio has been an integral part of our national journey since independence. Radio Pakistan has played a historic role in sharing trusted information, promoting cultural heritage and giving voice to the diversity of our languages and perspectives. It has offered clarity and reassurance in times of difficulty, from natural calamities to periods of rapid change, and has sustained dialogue within our society. Today, Radio Pakistan broadcasts in 26 languages, a reach unmatched by any other medium.

For millions of Pakistanis, radio remains part of everyday life. It accompanies farmers in the fields, drivers on long roads and families in homes where electricity or internet access may be uncertain. In moments of emergency, it provides timely guidance. In quieter hours, it offers education, culture and a sense of connection. This practical presence in daily routines explains why radio continues to matter across regions, generations and income levels.

Even as we witness rapid technological transformation, the relevance of radio remains undiminished. While television viewership is declining in many parts of the world, radio listenership is showing renewed strength, particularly among young audiences including Gen Z. This reflects the adaptability of radio and points to a promising future. By embracing online streaming, social media and digital broadcasting innovations, radio has expanded its reach while preserving the immediacy and intimacy that define it.

Radio continues to be a medium of trust and inclusion. It reaches communities beyond the reach of other technologies, elevates voices from across the country and strengthens social cohesion. In an age of complex information flows, it stands as a reliable source of credible news, public service information and cultural expression.

On this International Radio Day, let us recognise the dedication of radio professionals and reaffirm our commitment to support this timeless medium. By approaching new technologies with care and responsibility, we can ensure that radio remains vibrant, accessible and responsive to the needs of all citizens.

I wish all listeners and radio professionals continued success in their service to society.

عالمی یومِ ریڈیو کے موقع پر میں پاکستان اور دنیا بھر میں ریڈیو سے وابستہ پیشہ ور افراد، براڈکاسٹرز اور سامعین، اور آڈیو کمیونیکیشن کے اہم کام میں کردار ادا کرنے والے تمام افراد کے لئے نیک تمناؤں کا اظہار کرتا ہوں۔

یہ دن لوگوں کو معلومات فراہم کرنے، تعلیم دینے اور مختلف ثقافتوں اور علاقوں کے درمیان رابطہ قائم کرنے میں ریڈیو کے منفرد کردار کو اجاگر کرتا ہے۔ ایک صدی سے زائد عرصے سے ریڈیو عوامی مکالمے اور سماجی زندگی کو شکل دیتا آ رہا ہے۔ یہ آج بھی ایک ایسا ہم سفر ذریعہ ہے جو مکمل توجہ مانگے بغیر تعلیم اور تفریح فراہم کرتا ہے، اور لوگوں کو روزمرہ کے کاموں کے دوران باخبر رکھتا ہے۔

اس سال عالمی یومِ ریڈیو کا موضوع ریڈیو اور مصنوعی ذہانت کے باہمی تعلق پر مرکوز ہے۔ اس میں اس بات کو تسلیم کیا گیا ہے کہ نئی ٹیکنالوجیز اگر اخلاقی اور ذمہ دارانہ انداز میں استعمال ہوں تو براڈکاسٹرز کی معاونت کر سکتی ہیں، جبکہ پیشہ ورانہ رائے اور تخلیقی صلاحیت کا احترام بھی برقرار رہتا ہے۔ ڈیجیٹل دور میں مصنوعی ذہانت رسائی بہتر بنانے، سامعین سے رابطہ مضبوط کرنے اور عوامی خدمت کی معلومات مؤثر انداز میں پہنچانے کے مواقع فراہم کرتی ہے۔ تیاری، نشریات، سامعین کے جائزے، فیڈ بیک اور تحقیق میں اس کے محتاط استعمال سے ریڈیو کو مزید تقویت مل سکتی ہے، تاہم انسانی آواز اور ادارتی دیانت داری ریڈیو کی بنیادی طاقت ہیں۔

پاکستان میں قیامِ پاکستان سے ہی ریڈیو ہمارے قومی سفر کا لازمی حصہ رہا ہے۔ ریڈیو پاکستان نے مستند معلومات کی فراہمی، ثقافتی ورثے کے فروغ اور ہماری مختلف زبانوں اور نقطۂ نظر کو آواز دینے میں تاریخی کردار ادا کیا ہے۔ قدرتی آفات سے لے کر تیز رفتار تبدیلیوں کے ادوار تک، ریڈیو نے مشکل وقت میں وضاحت اور اطمینان فراہم کیا اور معاشرے میں مکالمے کو قائم رکھا۔ آج ریڈیو پاکستان 26 زبانوں میں نشریات پیش کر رہا ہے، جو کسی بھی دوسرے ذریعے کے مقابلے میں منفرد رسائی ہے۔

لاکھوں پاکستانیوں کے لیے ریڈیو آج بھی روزمرہ زندگی کا حصہ ہے۔ یہ کھیتوں میں کسانوں کے ساتھ، طویل سڑکوں پر ڈرائیوروں کے ہمراہ، اور ان گھروں میں خاندانوں کے ساتھ رہتا ہے جہاں بجلی یا انٹرنیٹ کی سہولت غیر یقینی ہو سکتی ہے۔ ہنگامی حالات میں یہ بروقت رہنمائی فراہم کرتا ہے، جبکہ پرسکون اوقات میں تعلیم، ثقافت اور باہمی ربط کا احساس دیتا ہے۔ روزمرہ معمولات میں اس عملی موجودگی کی وجہ سے ریڈیو مختلف علاقوں، نسلوں اور آمدنی کے طبقات میں اپنی اہمیت برقرار رکھے ہوئے ہے۔

اگرچہ ہم تیز رفتار تکنیکی تبدیلیوں کا مشاہدہ کر رہے ہیں، ریڈیو کی اہمیت میں کوئی کمی نہیں آئی۔ دنیا کے کئی حصوں میں ٹیلی ویژن دیکھنے والوں کی تعداد میں کمی کے باوجود، ریڈیو سننے والوں میں دوبارہ اضافہ ہو رہا ہے، خاص طور پر نوجوانوں، بشمول جنریشن زی، میں۔ یہ رجحان یہ ریڈیو کی تبدیلی کے ساتھ ہم آہنگ ہونے کی صلاحیت کو ظاہر کرتا ہے اور اس کے روشن مستقبل کی نشاندہی کرتا ہے۔ آن لائن اسٹریمنگ، سوشل میڈیا اور ڈیجیٹل براڈکاسٹنگ جیسی جدتوں کو اپنا کر ریڈیو نے اپنی رسائی بڑھائی ہے، اور ریڈیو کی وہ تازگی اور قربت کےاس احساس کو برقرار رکھا ہے جو اسے خاص بناتے ہیں۔

ریڈیو بھروسے اور سب کی شمولیت کااہم ذریعہ ہے۔ یہ ان لوگوں تک بھی پہنچتا ہے جہاں دیگر ٹیکنالوجیز کی رسائی ممکن نہیں، ملک بھر کی آوازوں کو اجاگر کرتا ہے اور سماجی ہم آہنگی کو مضبوط بناتا ہے۔ معلومات کے پیچیدہ بہاؤ کے اس دور میں، ریڈیو معتبر خبروں، عوامی خدمت کی معلومات اور ثقافتی اظہار کا قابلِ اعتماد ذریعہ ہے۔

اس عالمی یومِ ریڈیو پر آئیے ریڈیو سے وابستہ پیشہ ور افراد کی محنت کو سراہیں اور ذرائعِ ابلاغ کے اس لازوال ذریعے کی حمایت کے عزم کی تجدید کریں۔ نئی ٹیکنالوجیز کو احتیاط اور ذمہ داری سے اپناتے ہوئے ہم یہ یقینی بنا سکتے ہیں کہ ریڈیو تمام شہریوں کی ضروریات کے مطابق فعال، مؤثر اورسب کی رسائی میں رہے۔

میں تمام سامعین اور ریڈیو سے وابستہ افراد کے لیے دعاگو ہوں کہ وہ معاشرے کی خدمت میں ہمیشہ کامیابی سے کرتے رہیں۔
