Message on the 73rd Birth Anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto - 21 June 2026

Today, on the 73rd birth anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, the nation remembers a leader whose courage, political vision and commitment to democracy left a lasting mark on Pakistan’s history.

As the first woman Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Muslim world, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto broke barriers and opened new possibilities for women in public life. At a time of considerable political uncertainty, she stood firmly for democratic governance, constitutional rule and the right of the people to determine their future through the ballot box. Her public life reflected resilience in the face of adversity and a steady belief in the strength of democratic institutions.

She showed that leadership is never one-dimensional. She fulfilled many roles in life, as a daughter, a mother, a wife, a friend, a patriot and a citizen of the world committed to peace. She approached each responsibility with courage, conviction and a deep sense of duty.

She remained closely engaged with the concerns of ordinary citizens. Whether speaking about employment, education, health services or the welfare of vulnerable communities, she believed that public office carried a responsibility to improve people’s lives. Her politics was rooted in the conviction that progress must reach those who had long remained on the margins of development.

Her understanding of Pakistan was shaped not by distance, but by constant engagement with its people. She listened to citizens, party workers, journalists and members of civil society. She worked through direct contact and sustained engagement and remained closely attuned to public sentiment and the aspirations of ordinary Pakistanis.

Throughout her political life, she remained committed to peaceful political expression and democratic means of dissent. She firmly rejected violence as a tool of politics and consistently upheld dialogue, constitutional processes and democratic participation as the only legitimate path forward.

For many Pakistani families, the issues she championed continue to shape daily life. Access to education for children, opportunities for young people entering the workforce, reliable public services and greater participation of women in national life remain central to the country’s future. Her vision sought to ensure that these concerns received attention at the highest levels of government.

Beyond her political achievements, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto demonstrated remarkable determination and personal strength. She faced imprisonment, exile and persistent threats, yet remained committed to serving the people of Pakistan. Her decision to return home and continue her political struggle reflected her deep sense of duty to the country and her confidence in the democratic aspirations of its people.

As we remember Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto on her birth anniversary, we pay tribute to her sacrifice, her service and her enduring place in the nation’s memory. Her life continues to inspire those who believe in democracy, public service and the promise of a better future for Pakistan.

She was born on the day when the sun shines longest across our hemisphere. In many ways, her life reflected that symbolism. She faced adversity, challenged injustice and carried hope through some of Pakistan’s most difficult moments. She was destined to stand against darkness and keep the light burning. She was Benazir in every sense of the word.

آج، شہید محترمہ بے نظیر بھٹو کی 73 ویں یومِ پیدائش کے موقع پر، پوری قوم ایک ایسی رہنما کو یاد کر رہی ہے جن کی جرات، سیاسی بصیرت اور جمہوریت سے وابستگی نے پاکستان کی تاریخ پر ایک گہرا اثر چھوڑا ہے۔

پاکستان اور مسلم دنیا کی پہلی خاتون وزیرِاعظم کی حیثیت سے، شہید محترمہ بے نظیر بھٹو نے رکاوٹوں کو توڑا اور عوامی زندگی میں خواتین کے لیے نئے امکانات کے دروازے کھولے۔ سیاسی عدم استحکام کے دور میں انہوں نے جمہوری طرزِ حکمرانی، آئینی بالادستی اور عوام کے اپنے مستقبل کا فیصلہ ووٹ کے ذریعے کرنے کے حق کی مضبوطی سے حمایت کی۔ ان کی عوامی زندگی مشکلات کے باوجود استقامت اور جمہوری اداروں کی طاقت پر پختہ یقین کی عکاس رہی۔

انہوں نے ثابت کیا کہ قیادت ایک جامع تصور ہے۔ وہ زندگی میں مختلف کردار نبھاتی رہیں—بطور بیٹی، ماں، بیوی، دوست، محبِ وطن اور امن کی خواہاں ایک عالمی شہری۔ انہوں نے ہر ذمہ داری کو جرات، یقین اور فرض شناسی کے ساتھ نبھایا۔

وہ ہمیشہ عام شہریوں کے مسائل سے قریب رہیں۔ روزگار، تعلیم، صحت کی سہولیات اور کمزور طبقات کی فلاح و بہبود جیسے امور پر بات کرتے ہوئے ان کا یقین تھا کہ حکومتی منصب کا بنیادی مقصد عوام کی زندگی بہتر بنانا ہے۔ ان کی سیاست اس تصور پر قائم تھی کہ ترقی کا فائدہ معاشرے کے اُن طبقات تک ضرور پہنچنا چاہیے جو طویل عرصے تک محرومی کا شکار رہے ہیں۔

پاکستان کے بارے میں ان کی سمجھ کسی دوری یا فاصلے پر مبنی نہیں تھی بلکہ عوام کے ساتھ مسلسل رابطے اور گہرے تعلق پر قائم تھی۔ وہ شہریوں، پارٹی کارکنوں، صحافیوں اور سول سوسائٹی کے افراد سے براہِ راست ملاقات کرتی رہیں اور عوامی جذبات اور خواہشات سے قریبی طور پر آگاہ رہیں۔

اپنی سیاسی زندگی کے دوران وہ ہمیشہ پرامن سیاسی اظہار اور جمہوری اختلاف کی پابند رہیں۔ انہوں نے سیاست میں تشدد کو مکمل طور پر رد کیا اور مکالمے، آئینی عمل اور جمہوری شمولیت کو ہی واحد راستہ قرار دیا۔

بہت سے پاکستانی خاندانوں کے لیے وہ مسائل آج بھی اہم ہیں جن پر انہوں نے توجہ دی تھی۔ بچوں کی تعلیم تک رسائی، نوجوانوں کے لیے روزگار کے مواقع، مؤثر عوامی سہولیات اور قومی زندگی میں خواتین کی بھرپور شرکت، یہ سب ان کے وژن کا مرکزی حصہ تھے تاکہ یہ مسائل ریاستی سطح پر ترجیح حاصل کریں۔

سیاسی کامیابیوں کے علاوہ، شہید محترمہ بے نظیر بھٹو نے غیر معمولی عزم اور مضبوطی کا مظاہرہ کیا۔ انہوں نے قید و بند، جلاوطنی اور مسلسل خطرات کا سامنا کیا، مگر پاکستان کی خدمت کے عزم پر قائم رہیں۔ وطن واپسی اور سیاسی جدوجہد جاری رکھنے کا ان کا فیصلہ ان کی فرض شناسی اور عوام کی جمہوری خواہشات پر اعتماد کی علامت تھا۔

جب ہم ان کی یومِ پیدائش پر انہیں یاد کرتے ہیں تو ہم ان کی قربانی، خدمات اور قوم کی یادداشت میں ان کے مستقل مقام کو خراجِ عقیدت پیش کرتے ہیں۔ ان کی زندگی اُن سب کے لیے مشعلِ راہ ہے جو جمہوریت، عوامی خدمت اور ایک بہتر پاکستان کے خواب پر یقین رکھتے ہیں۔

وہ اُس دن پیدا ہوئیں جب ہمارے نصف کرے میں سورج سب سے زیادہ دیر تک روشن رہتا ہے۔ کئی حوالوں سے ان کی زندگی اسی علامت کی عکاس تھی۔ انہوں نے مشکلات کا سامنا کیا، ناانصافی کے خلاف جدوجہد کی اور پاکستان کے مشکل ترین ادوار میں امید کی شمع روشن رکھی۔ وہ اندھیروں کے مقابل کھڑے ہونے اور روشنی کو قائم رکھنے کے لیے پیدا ہوئی تھیں۔ وہ ہر لحاظ سے "بے نظیر" تھیں۔
