Message onInternational Anti-Corruption Day- 09th December 2025

Today, Pakistan joins the international community in observing the United Nations’ International Anti Corruption Day. The UN General Assembly set this day in 2003 to mark the adoption of the United Nations Convention against Corruption and to draw global attention to the damage corruption causes to societies and economies. It also reminds us that the fight against corruption is a shared responsibility of governments, civil society, the media and citizens.

Corruption undermines public trust, weakens institutions and diverts resources away from people who need them most. It slows development, erodes confidence in the rule of law and affects the delivery of essential public services. For a country to progress, its institutions must be strong, impartial and guided by fairness.

Pakistan has taken steps over the years to strengthen its accountability framework. Public funds have been recovered in cases involving misuse of authority, financial fraud and illegal occupation of state land. These efforts have brought relief to many affected individuals and helped restore assets to public and private organisations. Such results show what can be achieved when institutions act with integrity and stay focused on their legal mandate.

At the same time, accountability bodies must earn public respect and public confidence by remaining apolitical, avoiding discrimination and ensuring that their actions are guided only by fair play. Transparency, professionalism and ethical conduct are essential for credibility. Institutions that uphold these principles not only prevent corruption but also reinforce the public’s faith in the state.

On this day, I call upon all public servants, professionals and citizens to reaffirm their commitment to honesty and good governance. Our collective resolve to uphold integrity will strengthen Pakistan’s institutions and support our path towards stability and growth.

I wish all organisations working for transparency and accountability continued success in their efforts for a fair and corruption free Pakistan.

کا  بین الاقوامی انسداد بدعنوانی دن پر پیغام

آج ہم دنیا کے ساتھ مل کر اقوام متحدہ کا انسداد بدعنوانی دن منا رہے ہیں۔ اقوام متحدہ کی جنرل اسمبلی نے یہ دن 2003 میں اس لئے مقرر کیا تھا کہ بدعنوانی سے ہونے والے نقصانات پر عالمی توجہ مبذول کرائی جائے اور اس کنونشن کی اہمیت اجاگر ہو جس کا مقصد کرپشن کو روکنا ہے۔ یہ دن یاد دلاتا ہے کہ بدعنوانی کے خلاف جدوجہد حکومتوں، سول سوسائٹی، میڈیا اور ہر شہری کی مشترکہ ذمہ داری ہے۔

بدعنوانی عوام کا اعتماد کمزور کرتی ہے، اداروں کی کارکردگی متاثر کرتی ہے اور وسائل ان لوگوں تک نہیں پہنچنے دیتی جنہیں ان کی سب سے زیادہ ضرورت ہوتی ہے۔ یہ ترقی کی رفتار سست کر دیتی ہے، قانون کی بالادستی پر یقین گھٹاتی ہے اور بنیادی سرکاری خدمات کو بھی متاثر کرتی ہے۔ کسی بھی ملک کی ترقی کیلئے ضروری ہے کہ اس کے ادارے مضبوط، غیر جانبدار اور انصاف کے اصولوں پر قائم ہوں۔

پاکستان نے وقت کے ساتھ احتساب کے نظام کو بہتر بنانے کیلئے اقدامات کیے ہیں۔ مختلف مالی بے ضابطگیوں، اختیارات کے غلط استعمال اور سرکاری زمینوں پر ناجائز قبضوں کے کیسوں میں سرکاری رقوم لوگوں سے واپس لی گئی ہیں۔ ان کارروائیوں سے متاثرہ شہریوں کو ریلیف ملا اور کئی اداروں کو ان کے اثاثے واپس ہوئے۔ یہ مثالیں ثابت کرتی ہیں کہ جب ادارے دیانت سے کام کریں اور اپنے قانونی دائرے میں رہیں تو اچھے نتائج حاصل ہوتے ہیں۔

ساتھ ہی یہ بھی ضروری ہے کہ احتساب کے ادارے سیاسی وابستگیوں سے بالاتر رہیں، کسی کے ساتھ امتیازی سلوک نہ کریں اور اپنی کارروائیوں کو صرف قانون اور شفاف طریقہ کار کے مطابق چلائیں۔ شفافیت، پیشہ وارانہ معیار اور اخلاقی طرز عمل ہی اداروں کی ساکھ بناتے ہیں۔ جو ادارے ان اصولوں کو اپناتے ہیں وہ نہ صرف بدعنوانی کو روکتے ہیں بلکہ عوام کا اعتماد بھی مضبوط کرتے ہیں۔

اس موقع پر میں تمام سرکاری ملازمین، پیشہ ور افراد اور شہریوں سے اپیل کرتا ہوں کہ وہ ایمانداری اور اچھی حکمرانی کے عزم کا اعادہ کریں۔ دیانت داری پر قائم ہمارا اجتماعی عزم پاکستان کے اداروں کو مضبوط کرے گا اور قومی استحکام اور ترقی کے سفر میں مدد دے گا۔

میں شفافیت اور احتساب کیلئے کام کرنے والی تمام تنظیموں کیلئے کامیابی کے لئے دعا گو ہوں اور امید رکھتا ہوں کہ وہ پاکستان میں ایک صاف اور بدعنوانی سے پاک معاشرے کے قیام کیلئے اپنی کوششیں جاری رکھیں گی۔
