Message on INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY

On the occasion of International Literacy Day, I extend my warm greetings to the people of Pakistan and to the global community striving for a world where knowledge and learning are accessible to all.
Literacy is not merely the ability to read and write; it is the enhancement of human cognitive development and also a matter of dignity and a fundamental human right. It empowers individuals with confidence, gives them a voice in society, and opens the door to opportunities that would otherwise remain out of reach. It is also the foundation of personal growth and social progress, enabling citizens to actively participate in economic, cultural, and democratic life.
For Pakistan, literacy is the cornerstone of nation-building. It is the key to reducing poverty, fostering innovation, strengthening democracy, and ensuring sustainable development. A literate nation is a strong nation—one that can address its challenges with wisdom, resilience, and creativity.
We must pay special attention to empowering women and girls through education. An educated woman uplifts not only herself but also her family and community, becoming an agent of change and progress. By ensuring literacy and education for women, we invest in healthier families, stronger economies, and a more equitable society. No nation can achieve its true potential if half of its population is left behind.
The Government of Pakistan is committed to advancing universal literacy through stronger public policies, investment in quality education, digital innovations, and community engagement. 
These initiatives reflect the Government’s firm resolve to enhance literacy by making education inclusive, accessible, and adaptable to the diverse needs of our people. By strengthening non-formal education alongside the formal system, Pakistan is ensuring that every child, youth, and adult has the opportunity to learn, regardless of age, gender, or socio-economic background.
Yet, this national cause requires the collective resolve of society—families, communities, civil society, media, and the private sector. Each one of us has a role to play in nurturing a culture of lifelong learning and in ensuring that education becomes the shared wealth of the entire nation.
On this International Literacy Day, I call upon all Pakistanis to reaffirm their commitment to this noble cause. Let us envision a Pakistan where literacy is universal, education is inclusive, and knowledge is accessible to all. Together, we can build a society that upholds human dignity, empowers women, and harnesses the full potential of our citizens for peace, prosperity, and progress.
May Allah Almighty guide us in our efforts to make Pakistan a truly enlightened, literate, and prosperous nation.

بین الاقوامی یومِ خواندگی کے موقع پر، میں پاکستان کے عوام اور دنیا بھر کے اُن تمام افراد کو دلی مبارکباد پیش کرتا ہوں جو ایک ایسے عالمی معاشرے کے قیام کے لیے کوشاں ہیں جہاں علم اور سیکھنے کے مواقع سب کے لیے دستیاب ہوں۔
خواندگی صرف پڑھنے اور لکھنے کی صلاحیت کا نام نہیں، بلکہ یہ انسانی فکری نشوونما کا فروغ، عزتِ نفس کا معاملہ اور ایک بنیادی انسانی حق بھی ہے۔ یہ افراد کو اعتماد عطا کرتی ہے، انہیں معاشرے میں آواز فراہم کرتی ہے اور اُن  مواقع کے دروازے کھولتی ہے جو بصورتِ دیگر اُن کی پہنچ سے باہر رہتے۔ خواندگی ذاتی ترقی اور سماجی ارتقاء کی بنیادبھی ہے، جو شہریوں کو معیشت، ثقافت اور جمہوریت میں بھرپور شرکت کے قابل بناتی ہے۔
خواندگی پاکستان کے لیے قومی تعمیر کی بنیاد ہے۔ یہ غربت میں کمی، جدت کے فروغ، جمہوریت کے استحکام اور پائیدار ترقی کے لیے کلیدی حیثیت رکھتی ہے۔ ایک تعلیم یافتہ قوم ہی  مضبوط قوم ہوتی ہے، جو دانش، استقامت اور تخلیقی صلاحیتوں کے ساتھ اپنے مسائل کا مقابلہ کر سکتی ہے۔
ہمیں خواتین اور بچیوں کو تعلیم کے ذریعے بااختیار بنانے پر خصوصی توجہ دینی چاہیے۔ ایک تعلیم یافتہ خاتون نہ صرف خود کو سنوارتی ہے بلکہ اپنے خاندان اور معاشرے کی  فلاح کا ذریعہ بھی بنتی ہے۔ وہ تبدیلی اور ترقی کی علمبردار بنتی ہے۔ خواتین کی تعلیم میں سرمایہ کاری، صحت مند خاندانوں، مضبوط معیشت اور ایک منصفانہ معاشرے کی ضمانت ہے۔ کوئی قوم اُس وقت تک اپنی اصل صلاحیت حاصل نہیں کر سکتی  جب تک  اُس کی آدھی آبادی   ترقی کے عمل میں شریک نہ ہو ۔
حکومتِ پاکستان خواندگی کے فروغ کے لیے پختہ عزم رکھتی ہے اور مضبوط عوامی پالیسیوں، معیاری تعلیم میں سرمایہ کاری، ڈیجیٹلائزیشن میں جدت اور کمیونٹی کی شمولیت کے ذریعے اس مقصد کی طرف گامزن ہے۔
پاکستان رسمی اور غیر رسمی تعلیم کو مضبوط بنا کر یہ یقینی بنا رہا ہے کہ ہر بچہ، نوجوان اور بالغ فرد، وہ خواہ کسی بھی عمر، جنس یا سماجی و اقتصادی پس منظر سے تعلق رکھتا ہو،سیکھنے کے مواقع حاصل کر سکے۔
تاہم، یہ قومی فریضہ اجتماعی عزم کا متقاضی ہے۔خاندانوں، کمیونٹیز، سول سوسائٹی، میڈیا اور نجی شعبے سمیت ہم سب کو اپنا کردار ادا کرنا ہوگا۔ ہمیں سیکھنے کی ثقافت کو فروغ دینا ہوگا اور تعلیم کو پوری قوم کا مشترکہ اثاثہ بنانا ہوگا۔

آج بین الاقوامی یومِ خواندگی پر میں تمام پاکستانیوں سے اپیل کرتا ہوں کہ وہ اس عظیم مقصد سے اپنی وابستگی کا اعادہ کریں اور ایک ایسے پاکستان کی تشکیل کریں جہاں خواندگی عام ہو، تعلیم جامع ہو اور علم ہر ایک کی دسترس میں ہو۔
آئیے ہم مل کر ایک ایسا معاشرہ تعمیر کریں جو انسانی وقار کی پاسداری کرے، خواتین کو بااختیار بنائے اور ہمارے شہریوں کی مکمل صلاحیتوں کو امن، خوشحالی اور ترقی کے لیے بروئے کار لائے۔
اللہ تعالیٰ ہمیں اس مشن میں کامیابی عطا فرمائے اور پاکستان کو ایک روشن، تعلیم یافتہ اور خوشحال ملک بنائے۔ آمین۔
