President Mamnoon Hussain Friday reiterated that the government would undertake all measures to modernise country's armed forces so as to enable them counter internal and external threats and terrorism.
He was addressing a "Bara Khana" - a grand luncheon - for the officers and men of the armed forces who participated in the Pakistan Day Parade on March 23 at Shakarparian grounds.
The President said only a strong military can protect the nation from the threats the country faces. The President also paid rich tributes to the courageous officers and men of the armed forces who were participating in the Operation Zarb-e-Azb and have successfully destroyed the network of the terrorists.
"Pakistan is safe only because of the sacrifices of these valiant officers and men of our armed forces," the President said. He expressed the hope that the country would soon be able to get rid of the scourge of terrorism.
President Mamnoon Hussain expressed the hope that the Pakistani nation should stand united and adhere to the democratic traditions so that the country can prosper and progress in every sphere of life.
The President lauded the successful holding of the Pakistan Day Parade and said the entire nation was proud of its armed forces who were always ready to even render the supreme sacrifice of their lives to protect their motherland.
He said the 23rd March Parade was a reflection of the close coordination and a demonstration of the military prowess of the country's armed forces. "Every step the marching columns took, was not only overwhelming for the enemy, but was also a reaffirmation of the confidence of the nation in their armed forces and their ability to thwart nefarious designs."
The President said the parade revived the spirit the nation felt, when its founding fathers strived for an independent state. He said the parade also raised country's stature at global level and showed that the armed forces of the country and their weapon systems were an effective shield against any aggression.
"It proved that this nation is invincible and no power in the world can dare cast an evil eye on Pakistan." He said the JF-17 Thunder aircraft, its "Barq" and "Baraq" UAVs showed the country's success in self-reliance. He said the progress in this regard would continue. The President also quoted Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah who said that the Pakistani nation can surmount all problems with unity and solidarity.
The President urged the officers and men to follow in the vision and thoughts of the great leader so that the nation can not only confront its challenges, but also stand with pride in the comity of nations. The President later distributed awards and shields amongst the participants for their outstanding performance. He also appreciated all those who made the event a success.
