President Mamnoon Hussain has offered to provide training to Myanmar in education, defence and other sectors during a meeting with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, Myanmar, who called on the President along with a delegation at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Thursday.
The President said that Pakistan desires to enhance its relations with Myanmar in the fields of trade, commerce, defence, and tourism. The President apprised that operation Zarb-e-Azb is progressing successfully against terrorists which has produced positive results.
The President highlighted that bilateral trade between the two countries is below its true potential and said it needs to be further enhanced. He also congratulated Myanmar for successfully holding the chairmanship of Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) in 2014.
The President observed that Pakistan and Myanmar have a long history of friendly relations. He stated that Pakistan respects sovereignty and territorial integrity of Myanmar. The President said that Pakistan would continue supporting Myanmar’s efforts for regional peace and cooperation at all levels. The President also expressed hope that government of Myanmar would provide equal treatment to all minorities including Muslim minority.
