Acting President Mian Raza Rabbani has said that Pakistan is passing through a difficult phase and emphasized that the nation should get united to address the challenges confronting the country.
The Acting President said this while addressing “Atraaf-e-Azmat Awards” ceremony organized by monthly magazine Atraaf here inIslamabad on Tuesday.
The Acting President stated that the people of Pakistan are brave and the way they braced the terrorist incidents over the years is exemplary. The Acting President said that it is need of the hour that we forge unity in our ranks and collectively defeat the extremist ideology.
The Acting President underscored that the government should ensure strict implementation of laws and rules regarding bonded labour, provision of education and protection of rights of minorities. The Acting President said that unfortunately the vision of Quaid-e-Azam forPakistan to be a welfare, progressive and liberal country is not being materialized and emphasized the need to realize the vision of its founding father in its true spirit. The Acting President called for protecting the rights of minorities in the country in the light of constitution noting that on 22 occasions there has been mention of protection of rights of minorities in the constitution. The Acting President underlined the need for strengthening the institutions of the country to put the country on path to progress and prosperity. The Acting President said that differences arise between institutions which should be addressed through dialogue.
The Acting President also paid tribute to the martyred children of Army Public School Peshawar attack whose supreme sacrifices strengthened the nation’s resolve to stamp out the scourge of terrorism and extremism from the country.
The President appreciated Atraaf on organizing Atraaf-e-Azmat Awards ceremony to acknowledge the real heroes of the country who were selflessly rendering humanitarian services in different areas. The Acting President also gave away Atraaf-e-Azmat Awards to individuals belonging to various walks of life in recognition of their humanitarian work.
On the occasion, the recipient of awards also addressed the ceremony and highlighted the importance of humanitarian work to cater to the needs of different marginalized segments of society.
