HIGH COMMISSIONER – DESIGNATE OF PAKISTAN TO NIGERIA CALLS ON THE PRESIDENT

President Mamnoon Hussain underlined the importance of regular high-level bilateral interaction, parliamentary exchanges and people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and Nigeria for imparting new impetus to bilateral relations in diverse fields.
The President said this while talking to High Commissioner – designate of Pakistan to Nigeria Lt. Gen. (Retd) Agha Muhammad Umer Farooq who called on him at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Monday.
The president congratulated the High Commissioner-designate on his new assignment, and expressed hope that his appointment would further strengthen Pakistan’s relations with Nigeria.
The President emphasized on the need for greater efforts to enhance bilateral trade through frequent exchange of trade delegations. The President called for increased efforts towards promoting investment in both countries, and underscored Pakistani private sector’s keenness for mutually beneficial joint ventures with their Nigerian counterparts in the fertilizer, sugar, cement and palm oil sectors.
The President said that Pakistan and Nigeria should take advantage from each others’ expertise in the field of agriculture. The President stated that scientists and experts in the agricultural sector should be exchanged for the mutual bilateral benefits adding that Nigeria’s expertise be utilized to impart training to Pakistani scientists in palm oil cultivation and palm oil germplasm.
